This one has been on my Steve-stalking list since he bought it . I found a nice one at CICF. It has a different style and is rather porous but the devices are all clear and Apollo's nose is only a little bit smooshed-- not bad for a front-facer. AEOLIS, Grynion (alt. spellings: Gryneion, Gyrnion, Grynium, others) 4th century BC Æ 17 mm, 3.7 gm Obi: laureate head of Apollo facing slightly left Rev: ΓΥΡΝΗΙΩΝ; mussel shell Ref: SNG Ashmolean 1445-6; SNG Copenhagen 202-4
Congrats again on scoring yourself a sweet mussel, TIF ... I haven't seen too many of these babies around => another great addition from your big Chicago coin-adventure
I have seen lots of Apollo's with smooshed noses. They seem to to follow the big dog too close and can't stop in time. Great coins.
Steve! Just saw your coin, looks sweet. I just added a similar coin (looks just like the coin in the link), what have you learned about it? Any idea what demonination it is? Listed as "BM-3", Sear-4209". Would this have just been a small 2 gram stater? https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ro...mussel_shell_good_vf_rare/565325/Default.aspx
