I stopped collecting Ancients back in the mid eighties and re discovered them a couple of weeks ago and thought I would share what I have. Will post more as time allows. Faustina Senior (19.074 grams) Sest. Aeternitas std left Crispina wife of Commodus AE AS Draped bust R. Juno holding scepter Bring on the ladies!
Welcome, and welcome back to ancients! We have at least one serious collector of the Roman ladies here, and the rest of us will probably have at least a few, so you're in good company . That Crispina is nice! Here are two coins I have of a lady who is the daughter of the first and mother the second that you've shown. FAUSTINA JUNIOR AE Sestertius 25.42g, 33mm Rome mint, 176 AD or later RIC 1702 (Marcus Aurelius); Sear 5227 O: DIVA FAVSTINA PIA, draped bust right. R: CONSECRATIO S-C, veiled Faustina holding a scepter on a peacock flying right. FAUSTINA JUNIOR AE As or Dupondius 11.56g, 26.7mm Rome mint, 147-150 AD Sear 4731; RIC 1403 (Antoninus Pius) O: FAVSTINAE AVG PII AVG FIL, diademed & draped bust right. R: PVDICITIA S-C, Pudicitia standing left, holding out cloak in both hands.
Nice stuff, I like the crispina best too. I'm pretty much the ladies man but I am not gonna post all my coins of them . They are in my sig link.
Welcome---your 'story' is similar to mine...I just returned to collecting this past November.... Most of us have more than a few 'ladies'---mine primarily denarii and several sestertius that I'm in the beginning process of photographing with the camera i received yesterday. Anyway, love your posts and especially Crispina---a few of my ladies (file photos from seller): Crispina, Julia Maesa, O Severa and Plautilla...
I've got a handful of the ladies, but this is my most recent acquisition... Julia Domna, AD 193-217 AR Denarius, 19 mm, 3.25 g, 12h; Rome mint: c. 205. Obv.: IVLIA AVGVSTA; Draped bust right. Rev.: MATER DEVM; Cybele, leaning on tympanum, holding branch and scepter, seated left on throne flanked by two lions. Reference: RIC IVa 564 (Septimius); RSC 123.
Thanks guys some really nice stuff posted. Most of my coins were bought from mail auctions with just a description to go by. Would take up to six weeks to have coins in hand. Still have some of the old catalogs from fixed price outlets.
I thought I might as well add a few more while I'm waiting for a truck delivery of 'dirt' for my front yard---yeah, re-seeding again!! And I'm having numerous trees removed and trimmed tomorrow---this stuff never ends!!! Antonia, Sabina, and Magnia Urbica.
I'm blown away by the quality of the coins you all have collected. I need to update my resources for identification seems to be fakes out the wazoo now days. And Mat you owe me a new keyboard, I went to your gallery, I must have looked like a large dog drooling. Great stuff man!

Gil-galad nice gallery. Noticed you had a Chinese folder also, I have some very early coinage from China: Emperor Pan-Liang (175-119 BC), Wang-Mang (7-22 AD), Ruler Huo-Chuan under emp. Wang-Mang, and Commander Lili (1414-1428). Have some Chinese knife coins pre 255 BC.
Well I am humbled Q. That Fausta is something else, have not seen that reverse before either. I think instead of buying more I will just enjoy what every body else has. Glimpses of history at her best, I thank you all.
