Look at the Romans and the sestertius. It was a tiny silver coin, then a huge bronze one. Same could be said of the English penny. When they reintroduced it in 1797 as a copper coin, they were massive.</p><p><br /></p><p>You have to, at first at least, have a massive amount of copper in the coin for everyone to get used to the new coin and its worth.
