It has been awhile since I have bought an Ancient 'keeper' for myself. Most of my new coins have been late 19th century modern coins. I came across this one and liked it and figured 'why not' since I had some extra money sitting in paypal and could easily justify the price. I admit it won't win any beauty contests but what really drew me in was the reverse. The obverse is not the greatest anymore but the hawk looks very nice on the reverse. I am still playing with photos. I had too much light I think on this one and couldn't get the remaining letters to come out since they are faint. The nice red-brown colour did come out though. Hadrian Obol, Alexandria, Year 11 Obv. AVT KAI TPAI A∆PIA CEB laureate bust right, drapery on left shoulder Rev. Thanks for taking a look!
I like those Alexandrians. Ordered Emmett's book today (I'm on the coin wagon but book purchases are allowed, right? Right??)
Whiz, nice coin, it feels good to buy a coin every once in a while, is that the color of coin, awesome red, very nice...
The red is a little bit duller and not as vibrant in hand. For some reason my tablet decided to fixate on the red and highlight it on the coin. I am going to play with the settings some more on this weekend and see if I can get the colour closer to what it is in hand.
My guess would have been hemiobol. When my book arrives, I'll see what it says unless those smarter than I who bought the books first look it up first. Nike swoosh?
*Slow clap* Nice pick up Wiz! These smaller Egyptian denominations are always cool to see. Now get out of the market, I want one.
YOC - My understanding is that the Skhent is the crown of upper and lower Egypt. Doug - You may be correct I haven't had a chance to research the coin fully Vlaha - I thought you might like it. Thanks for the coin kudos!
