Please excuse me for intruding in this thread but this post by Sallent brought back some memories for me. A number of years ago I was involved in a couple of amateur productions of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" and one of the problems we faced was obtaining authentic looking gladii (mostly for the Roman soldier extras to wear in Acts IV and V - Phillipi). We solved it by obtaining wooden replicas (very cheap) and staining the blade and pommel dark brown to approximate a sheathed gladius - even wrapped the blade with black electrical tape to simulate scabbard bands. They looked pretty hokey up close but quite realistic to the audience. I think those inexpensive wooden replica gladii are still available -- they can be made into nice display pieces.
So we got our son a puppy. It's "his" to take care of. I think I posted the first image somewhere else...but here's an update after one month:
Well you are a very debonair officer Bing -- a real credit to the uniform. I wore the uniform myself for twenty-three years (United States Air Force, Korean conflict to Vietnam and beyond) but I cannot find a decent pic to post, so here I am in the middle of WWII (1943) in England aged 14 .......... I think I have the year right -- my memory is turning to mush -- I can't even remember how old I am these days! ♂️
Talk about debonair. Really, in all honesty, I can see your image from today in this old photograph. I mean, look at the suit and tie on such a young man and great haircut. I know what you mean about memories, but there are some that seem to stick no matter what. I remember the good and the bad times, but don't ask me about yesterday.
That's an old code! Radio operator? On aircraft, on the ground? Mine is 2A674 or in your day (I think) 42410.
lol, well, thought they might have changed it since then. yup i was a combat radio op with the 5th mob. 424.. would that be admin? i haven't a a clue anymore. i just looked it up. you're a fuel tech. kool!
Mostly in the Instructor field -- I was a charter member of the USAF Marksmanship School (and ran overseas Base Firing Range/Marksmanship programs). The last several years of my career I was a Base Sergeant Major -- no longer a position, I believe it is now Command Chief Master Sergeant.
