His write-ups are definitely a Cointalk high point.

Yeah, The write-ups are great, our banter during the purchase is fun, and it is STILL great to get my weekly coin purchase from The Great One @John Anthony ... :D

I don't feel right if I don't score a new coin from John each week.

By the way, I believe my secret Saturnalia just arrived in the mail... I shall refrain from opening until the 17th

My grounding will be over in a month or so. So long as my last purchase remains hidden.
I haven't partaken in the last few JA auctions, was a sure test of will. Every week I see at least one coin I want. Soon enough I'll be back buying.
I do look forward to seeing JA's weekly offerings.

Ancients have it right - not only are the coins cooler, we get to open presents earlier...

I agree its close enough for Saturnalia at my house to.
I think this is an awsome gift. I didn't have a Septimus Severus and I do like reptiles snakes included.
I'm not as fast as some of you finding references but after a quick search through wildwinds it seems it'll take me a little bit to find even with the Varb ref.
Definately better in hand a better photo set up is high on my Christmas wish list.

    Septimus Severus
    Ae18, 4.4g, Thrace (Philippopolis)
    Laureate bust right
    Coiled serpent
    Varb. 1307

Thanks to my SS, I'll enjoy searching references.

Just opened my SS and to say I'm both extremely happy and fascinated would be an understatement.
A Ming knife of the late 4th cent BC.
Thank you very much to my SS for a fascinating piece. 001.JPG
