    S is for snake!

    AE as, 10.8g, 27mm; 6h; Rome mint, AD 128 - 132

Rev.: COS III, S C in fields; Salus, draped, standing right, feeding out of patera in left hand snake held in right hand

I don't have this one yet so I haven't attributed it yet (don't do it for me!) but it's my only other snake coin. I need more snake coins...I need more coins!

Oh wait, I do have a serpent biga of sorts, although it is difficult to discern on this tight flan:

    ATTICA, Eleusis
    360-330 BC
    AE16
Obv: Triptolemos, seated left in a winged chariot drawn by two snakes
Rev: Pig standing right on mystic staff, (bucranium below?)
    Ref: SNG Cop 415

I'm always on the lookout for a certain Roman Republic snake biga. One of these days... There is a very nice one coming up but it costs more than I'd like to spend.

    S is for Snake-in-a-bowl.

This lifetime Alexander Tetradrachm includes a serpent-in-a-bowl monogram. I believe this monogram is found on coins of Pella, Babylon, and Sardes. This coin does not include styles found on Babylon coins so it is possibly from Pella or Sardes. Perhaps we will never know for certain. As Stevex6 once said about this coin; "snake in a bowl, yum"

    AΛΕΞΑΝΑΡΟΥ to right
Grade: gVF to aEF with attractive old
toning and lustrous details in the
    protected areas. Slightly off center
    on small flan

    snake-in-a-bowl monogram mint mark.
