Ancient coin #1 of 2

    Among my dad's collection were a few ancient coins. When I started researching them I realized I'm way over my head. There are just too many and the coins are too compromised. I'm curious whether any are worth sending off to be professionally identified/graded. Here is one example, and I'm going to post another example right after this. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank You !

    You came to a good place, the guys here will tell you exactly what you have, no need to send them away.

    You have half of the answer on it. Maximinus Thrax, the reverse is probably PAX AVGVSTI. Size and weight will help tou for the exact attribution. Just one thing : the patina has been stripped down...I'm in pain for your coin...

    Thank you... It's 2.5 centimeters wide (about the size of a quarter).
    What do you mean by "the patina has been striped down" ?

    It's probably a denomination known as an "as" which was struck in copper. A little small for a sestertius it seems to me. Definitely Maximinus I Thrax.
