sometimes. Baocui does not. They will even increase the grade of tooled/altered coins That is correct I don’t think so. I don’t know if they have educational slabs like ICG does. I have never seen one Yes. I’ve seen this many times. I know GBCA does. They will say “authentic” and give a number in parentheses, such as (3). There is no grade, like PCGS “genuine” (not “details”) slabs. The number corresponds to the problem. (3) means repaired, like 92 means “cleaned” at PCGS
I hate slabs in general. Anything not worth being in a slab or in a low-tier slab gets cracked. I keep the insert because it establishes authenticity. I don’t fully understand the authenticity guarantee from the big 4 graders, but Wende “insures” the authenticity of the coins, so you are covered as long as you pay less than the maximum authenticity “insurance” the grader gives to the coin.
@TypeCoin971793 Thanks for answering my many questions. It's nice to have a resident expert, on Chinese coins, in the CoinTalk club.
Interesting thread. Forgive my ignorance about Chinese coins (and really all coins since I’m an “accumulator” and not a collector). NGC has an office in Hong Kong. Does their presence there give them more credibility than others who might be “winging it” or lack a commitment to the treacherous authentication of Chinese coins? I’m asking because I like to buy authenticated coins for friends. Thanks in advance.
