Two and nine are the clear winners in my book. The bridge in perspective over a river is fantastic. The Caracalla’s view of the temple is also great for that reason. The other coins are pretty great as well. A few I saw offered and wish I would have jumped on them.
Very interesting and great coins. Great acquisitions in 2020. My favorites are, of course # 5, a lovely portrait of Octavian, and then #7, a wonderful Claudius, and the very interesting #9 - the Caracalla with the Maeander river
Nice architectural array! My favorite is the Claudius cistophorus. I've never owned a cistophorus. Hope to rectify that someday. I like how medieval-looking the castle/fort on the reverse of the Commodus coin is. But I suppose maybe Roman fortifications didn't look all that different from how their later medieval counterparts did- or at least not as much as I would've expected. I like the bridge on the Caria Gallienus. The almost effeminate portrait is interesting, too.
Since I share your interest in architectural reverse types I'm always intrigued by your year end picks. Needless to say a fantastic list as always! I especially love #5 and #7.
All fantastic! I like the Caracalla of Philippopolis with the temple in perspective and the intricate city gate of Augusta Traiana, but most of all, I appreciate the Claudius cistophorus with the Temple of Artemis; it's a tough one to acquire.
Thank you everyone for looking your comments and kind words are much appreciated, I should also show the two coins that didn't make the top ten but I like them as much as the other ten and these two like my number 10 originated from coin talk members. From Brian Bucklan, it's from Panormos (modern Palermo) Sicily 1st or second century BC. Now the couple I have seen besides this one mention column, tower or lighthouse on obverse and Panormos monogram on reverse 17mm and 2.1gm with a shallow surface crack on reverse. From ValiantKnight, very generously offered me this Trajan beauty. Trajan (98-117). Æ As (26.5mm, 9.3g, 6h). Rome, 107-8. Laureate bust r., Slight drapery. R / Octastyle temple: on pediment, Jupiter seated between two reclining figures; on roof, five statues; between central columns, Pax standing facing. RIC II 575. Green-brown patina, VF; Hope everyone has a great Xmas and holiday break.
Holy smokes @Ancient Aussie . Great group! My favorites are your #9 with the cool bridge (this reminds me of the model of Trajan’s bridge over the Danube in Rome), #5 with the temple of Julius Caesar is super cool because you can still visit the ruins in the forum and your #1 is interesting because I’ve never seen an early Spanish coin with a temple on it before. All great stuff. Your architectural focus is one of the most appealing specialties you can go for in my opinion. I always enjoy your posts and thanks for sharing my friend.
