Pretty slick, Martin ... apparently you've been waiting in the ol' wings, eh? => gorgeous E-coins my friend!! (it's always nice to view your schtuff!!)
Here's my one sad little Elagabalus. An Alexandrian bi tet, Zeus Ammon reverse. One of the first ancients I purchased. Way back when (a few months ago ) The one I really want is the reverse showing the transport of the Sacred Stone of El-Gabal to Rome. I'm keeping an eye out for the right one. And MAN I need to get my camera fixed. My good camera's charger died so these are hasty phone pics.
Those of us that collect Eastern provincial and autonomous city coins would consider that a choice specimen. I don't know anything about that particular coin, but some of the bronze issues in the Near East were cast, as opposed to struck, so they had weak features to begin with. Couple that with a lifetime in hot, arid climes, and you're simply not going to get a coin with eye-appeal that "pops" like a well-struck denarius from Rome that survived the centuries, well protected, in the middle of an urn. Anytime you want to part with your "sad" little Elagabalus, send me a PM.
Well... I do actually like this coin. Despite its relatively poor condition, I chose it with care and it was the best example I could find at the time. It was during my Zeus-Ammon acquisition stage. Having Elagabalus on the obverse was icing. So I'm hanging on to this one
