I thought you got a great price on the coin, not sure about the tiara... http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...hire-diamond-and-natural-5388513-details.aspx Was the $1,188,239 with or without the buyer's premium?
Oh wow, I didn't even see read about the image I lifted-- just did a quick google image search for tiara and picked one that would accommodate the coin. That's quite a pricey little bauble!
Valha, now you have the top half of TIF face, go and find the lower half where's she's biting a big coin and photo shop the two and you'll have a prefect picture...
Tif.. Indeed I recognized in you a novelist and an adventurer, more than a coin collector. Please consider this as a praise.
I bid on this coin. Your avatar has been making me scratch my head for a couple days, then I saw the obverse and this story. I dropped out somewhere around 3,000 euros since I had some open bids going at another auction and if I won them all, it would have killed me (or my wife would have.) It's one of the best I have seen and I have bid on many of these. My biggest regret was not going stronger on my bids 9 years ago when I really, really wanted one of these but could not afford the average $2,500 that they went for................that seems so cheap now for something like this. Stunning coin. A gifted celator.
I'm having similar problems with Coretech right now!!! I have a bid in on lot 146 and can't access the live auction. Oh well.
(OK, yeah, so I'm late in responding) I dunno what Coretech is, but I know those Java and Adobe update hassles all too well. Sometimes it seems freakin' Java wants to update itself twice a week. Grrr. I ignore it most of the time when I'm at work. One Adobe reader update did NOT play well with our hotel's property management software, and made batch print jobs (like registration cards) nearly impossible, so I had to revert to the older version despite some bugs. So reading your tale of multiple frustrations stressed me out a little, like any good adventure story where the protagonist is facing seemingly insurmountable odds. It kept me in suspense, even though I knew the hero(-ine) would triumph in the end. And I'm sure the stress was worth it. What a treasure. The green Jealousy Monster within me hates you a little less for owning it now that I know how hard you had to work for it!
I'm late to the party, but what a great story TIF. This was like a challenge to me...... So...I worked hard and finally put together TIF's photo......
Sounds a lot like the birth - very painful process , but tremendously rewarding in the end. Your story was so exciting, now I can't sleep.
I must be true. I used bits and pieces of all the partial photos you've posted, including the tiara photo. And.....added your personality.
