    My sarcasm detector is not calibrated right now, but that post you quoted was not one of my best moments. So I will apologize if I generalized and included a group of people who shouldnt have been included in my post. I should not have reacted the way I did, thats on me. I was trying to remain calm and provide evidence of what I felt was going on with the coin, but something triggered in me and I have offended people I had no intention of offending. I dont remember saying anything to you specifically, but if Im inferring this correctly it rubbed you the wrong way, or my sarcasm detector needs to be re-calibrated.

    I tried uplighting my coin and I took another closeup, don't know if this will help. I don't know how this got out of hand, and I apologize for my part, but the premise that the coin was unworthy of the grade is getting a bit surreal as we are comparing the marks on my coin with the marks on a 66* and a 65. I tried to use occam's razor with this one, there are several coins with similar marks and clean fields. Targeted hits like that on more than a few coins go beyond the realm of coincidence. So they can't all be bag marks or hits. I don't expect you will find a perfect match for every coin, but there are enough similarities to detect a pattern. Plus, with that closeup, look at those mirrors.

    To the contrary of taking offense, I appreciated your constructive response, identifying some of us who may have an "ancient/aged" demeanor.

    My life consists of offended individuals, often responding with words not intended for the general public community.

    Thanks for the indulgence/tolerance!!

    Well, we're facing some problems with what we're finding. First, the VAMworld plate coins which lack these marks, and they represent both EDS and LDS versions of V7 (the LDS is 7A). Second, what sort of die event would raise something on the die in order to create a void on the coin, without showing some aspect of displaced metal along with (as if somebody dropped the die on the floor or something). Third, the lack of "commonality" among the various examples (I looked at enough high-res Heritage images and elsewhere today to use a third of my month's metered LTE - my only current Internet access - just for this thread and the related ones).

    Just so it's clear, your coin easily shows the pitting mentioned on the eagle, especially in your most recent detail pic. That's stipulated, but not related to the "voids" we're discussing.

    And if I recall, I took the position that it would likely not Bean, not that it isn't a 64. :)

    All the same, I'm more intrigued by this whole thing than I was earlier - I like the hard cases - and will cheerfully own any mistakes I've made in public about this should they be proven by empirical data.

    Here's some more close ups just for fun. I can understand why people would be turned off by this coin, but I love the ugly ducklings. The first picture there are no breast feathers at all. Contrast that with glassy mirrors and it's a snapshot into a world where these guys were trying to work with the dies they had and make them look as good as possible by polishing the hell out of them.

    Sean,we usually move past this stage of our lives(petty comments) by now.It's time to learn how to ignore negative commentaries or you'll miss some great buys while stewing about mere words. I like the coin myself,it stands out among the tons of Morgans out there and someone will find it just as irrisistable as you did for the mirrors too!BUY WHAT YOU LIKE PLEASE!....

    Sean, at 1st I wanted to jump in the middle of this whole thing and say: the coins clearly have identical splotches on the eagle so they must be a product of rusted dies. What I can't can't wrap my head around is the fact that they are shiny and lackluster. It almost has to be bag marks/hits of some sort(but I can't say one way or the other) grease or a struck thru debris is the only thing in my mind that could cause this effect. I own/owned quite a few pitted coins and none of them had this effect....Maybe posting @ Vamworld is the next step here because myself and obviously others are curious! If you could reach out to some other owners of the vam 7, maybe we could put this to bed...

    @SuperDave FYI!

    What I would prefer is that he send the coin to John Baumgart @messydesk for an in-hand examination. John is one of the best attributors for Morgan dollars that I know. Maybe then, we can put this whole thing to rest.

    I would much prefer something like that myself, Chris. We'll never do anything but flounder even with the highest-res images, because we're talking about stuff that really can't be imaged without excellent equipment and more importantly, specific knowledge of what is being highlighted so the process can be skewed towards showing it. I_will_say that over today it's begun to seem like there's smoke, and it might be worth looking for a fire.

    There is good content in this thread, however editing and future monitoring of problems would be too intensive that I am locking this thread. I warned same individuals in another thread of similar problems there, Stay cool or stay away.
