Actually he does have to have a dog in the fight - for it to be a violation of the forum rules. TJ's post does not break the rules. And my comments are not directed at you personally Jason, I merely quoted your comment because it serves as an example of how our rules are not understood correctly by some of the members. So hopefully my comments here will help with that understanding. The specific rule I'm talking about is the one regarding self-promotion, this one - 3 – Self Promotion – self promotion is not permitted on Coin Talk. * See exceptions A - Offers to buy, sell or trade by individuals and/or dealers are not permitted in any way, shape or form in threads and/or posts. If you wish to make such an offer, contact the other party by Private Message or email. B - Posting links to personal sales sites is not permitted. A personal sales site may be defined as any web site of a business that you own, or the site of a business that you work for, or are affiliated with in any way, that offers items for sale. C – Posting contact information such as phone numbers, addresses and email addresses in threads and/or posts for the purpose of making sales or advertising is not permitted. In this specific case, the post made by TJ, TJ does not own or work for ANACS, nor is he affiliated with them, so his post does not break the rules. Yes, it is promotion, but it is not self promotion - there is a difference. The only thing TJ is doing is passing along information that some members may find useful. What he is doing is no different than somebody recommending a dealer they like by posting a link to his website. Or than me posting a link like this to a retailer of coin related supplies - www.tjscorner.com . Posts like that are made every day, and not only is NOT against the rules, we encourage members to post information like that. To share with others information on and/or about dealers they trust and respect, good retailers, upcoming events, etc etc. And yes, even ads like this one from ANACS.
