a novice fine, but not ultra hardcore novice. i can take a little demeaning, but i think the later was a bit overboard on where i feel i'm at.

and for your last sentence, it really sounds like you're almost wishing failure on me. i don't know why but i get that impression. just saying.

anyway, i'll post some pics when what i get comes. thanks guys

Have fun deciding which coin to pick up. I've been in it a long time also and would normally say read and research. I just bought some more auction catalogs to gaze at the coins and try to evaluate, and could give a whole lot more of advice on buying, but your original question was for a list, and that is what I did.

Speedy, which lake? Lake Mary?, Mormon Lake? Many don't know of the many lakes in Arizona, and almost all have condos. We are thinking of trading one of our Forest condos in Flagstaff for one on the lake. From below sea level to over 12,000 feet, that is AZ. From deserts to snow/forests.

BNB, I have read this entire thread and it looks as if you are all over the place man. This coin, that coin. Figure out what it is that you like, collect first and worry about investment second. I am a novice just like yourself, and I bought my first coin 2 weeks ago. Only after months of doing nothing but reading and learning as much as I could. The following is what I posted on CT right after I received my coin:

After a tremendous amount of time learning and reading about various aspects of coin collecting, I took my first step into what I hope to be a long and slow marathon approach to my eventual collection. I focused hard on what I would like to complete and yet be obtainable for a first timer. I came to the conclusion that as opposed to collecting coins for the shear numbers of them, I would take the approach of lesser coins with higher quality from a series that I liked. Eventually, I settled upon the 2.5 Indian Quarter Eagles in mostly MS64&65's except for the 1911-d key. After searching long and hard for the 1st example of this set, I found a 1925-D NGC MS65 that had great luster eye appeal, very distinct mint mark, and strike. Although this coin is quite common by date, it becomes scarce at at gem and higher with only 40 NGC finer. Best part about it.......I got it for 8% back of bid, according to the most recent graysheet. This forum provides alot of good info for the novice and the research does payoff. I'll post pics when I learn how to photo a coin.

I wish you the best, but now I have to get back to learning how to photo a coin, because anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Actually it may seem like I'm all over the place to you but I'm really not.
I have a firm grasp on what I'd like to invest in.

    That being,

Confirmed (All the coins Must be Slabbed PCGS):
1928 Peace Dollar (Au and above)
    1885-cc Morgan (MS and above)
1937-d 3 legged buffalo nickel (Au and above)
    100oz silver bullion
    1 Lincoln Commemorative 09
    Some Silver eagles 01-09
An assortment of some junk silver/cull

All hoping for around the area of $3,000. Yes I raised it but don't plan to spend all of it soon, this is going to be a very slow & gradual process.

    The Maybe's:

1908 No Motto St Gaudens (Au or better)
    2009 Double Eagle

Ok - let me give you alittle detail about HA.com.
Heritage Auction Co. is one of the largest, if not THE largest auction company around that sells coins. THey have a LARGE auction archive that shows ended auctions from years gone by. You can type in almost any coin out there and find out what the going rate has been for that coin in that grade and that TPG for the last few years.
You can go and see if it is going up or down - you can get data on how many are graded by NGC and PCGS, and how many are graded higher.

All in all you NEED to join Heritage - it is FREE and you can get a better price there then any place.

The hype that is around these days with PCGS is just that - hype. You shouldn't put complete trust in ANY company as both have slabbed fakes in the past.
KNOW the person you are buying FROM, and know you COIN.
Knowledge is power, and like it or not, you need to study the market - yes a blind squirell can find a nut every now and then....

I've been doing coins for around 9+ years, and I'm STILL learning just how much I don't know about coins!

ya want to trade :D Maybe we could work out a deal ! LOL.
Ok you go me! I meant to say Ocean front - after I typed that I had the George Strait song going through my head for the rest of the evening!

I left around 5:30pm for dinner and just got back online now at 9pm and this is still is going on... BNB I do so hope you will enjoy buying up a big old list of yours desired coins then come back and re-read the thread again to reassess your thoughts and positions. It's seems you may merely want a coin to show off online, or here, for some reason but who knows given the things you've told us in your overly persistent way.

One more thing, does BNB Analytics stand for "Bull n Bear Analytics", would this happen to be you?

What's with all this damn negativity now from some of you? Please people, this doom and gloom towards me is not appreciated, now please stop it.

I'm just here to get some advice, this doesn't need to turn into this whole production!

I didn't read every page, so bear with me.

I think the best investment would be either getting several gold 1 oz coins for as close to spot as possible...or to invest in an early gold piece. These are expensive, rare coins that are always in demand. Do not get a problem coin.

You may also want to invest in numismatic gold, I bought a MS64 NGC saint 1908 no motto, for around $796. Because of demand for gold that cannot be confisfiated and other factors (pre 1933 gold), the coin also has numismatic value as well as bullion, a double whammy. I checked numismedia values and it's now worth $1600-$1800. That's more than double what I paid, I don't want to sell it as I enjoy collecting gold coins, but stuff like this happens. I think its important to get coins that are IN DEMAND, so it can liquidiate quickly.

    good luck!:hail:

ok ok ok - come on guys.
Here on CT we don't make rude comments to members - we can disagree with members, and I think for the most part we all disagree with BNB. That still doesn't make him any less of a member of CT just like yourselves. We all play by the rules here and that includes you!

You are very correct. There is no reason to be so negative. BNB- read the red book and then find a coin series that appeals to you. Buy that coin in the highest grade, with the best eye appeal you can find. Then you won't need my (or anyone else's) opinion on what you should buy. It is 100% up to you although I do agree that you should educate yourself before you spend $2000 in a hobby.

What are your reasons for thinking each of the above has a good reason to increase in value?

Also, why buy silver bullion and junk silver and silver eagles? That seems redundant.

Well, I would say for those listed, the reason of thought is:

They are low in mintage, key dates, and I believe if I get them in good condition then awesome. They are also affordable(well mostly).

The second question, I'm still editing stuff so I might nix the junk silver.

I HAVE really really enjoyed reading this thread, my advice I think you are already taking, and that is not to worry too much about a few thousand dollars, money comes and money goes, mostly goes.

The best deal I made was done with no knowledge, no study, I did not even ask advice, I was working before my naval enlistment started, I was living at home and for a few weeks I would go to the coinstore and pick up a st gaudens gold double eagle, I paid 83 dollars apiece for them, I ended up with 4 of them, I carried them in my pocket to impress the babes, (they were not impressed)

I showed them to my dad and being a thousand times more well versed in the ways of coins he educated me about the damage I was doing to them by carrying them in my pocket.

I was going into the service so I asked him to hold them for me, I forgot about them until I was feeling the pinch around the time my 2nd child was born, then I remembered them went and picked them up, I figured I could at least get a couple hundred for them ( I paid slightly more than 330) Boy was I happy when I got 400 apiece for them.

I have no idea what coin was hot when I bought them, but I bet if I had asked ten collectors I would have had ten different answers.

So FWIW, my advice is to buy the nicest early flowing hair dollar 1795 you can find.

But, for the most part, people are already well aware of the mintages and survival rates of such coins. What would cause the increase in demand required for them to increase in value?

    Glad you understand me.

Thanks for the advice, however man is that flowing hair flowing high in price. lol

But, thank you I'll keep that one in mind.
