Look, we obviously have a disagreement in thinking, sir.

I am striking while the kettle is hot for me.

If say, I wait 6 months, educate myself, I may lose interest in this whole thing or might not have the money. I don't expect to be a full time coin guy with all due respect to your industry.

I just came here asking for a few nice coins recommended for the amount I have and that's it.

I appreciate what you're saying, but I think you think I might be getting into this for the long term and I might get ripped off.. There's also a chance I might not get ripped off..

I'm willing to very conservatively take that chance.

I am a sniper in this game.. Everything given to me I carefully am reviewing and once I get my shot lined up real nice I'll pull the trigger*aka buy the coin* don't think I'll just commit to anything.

Once the coin/bullion that has a consensus on this forum does come, I will take pictures and share it with everyone.

I like the idea of an EF or higher 3 legged buffalo ( but some might say I am prejudiced )
see the link below on my thread.

Also with slabbed keys and semi-keys, I think the Lincoln 14-D, and the 1972 DDO die #1, would be reasonable as far as value-safe. To fill in the amount, the 1995 DDO in the MS-68 slabs are not as common as they may seem. I think the 72DDO #1 is very low compared to its visual impact, even though it has had increases over the last few years. Look for MS-65 or better. All in my opinion, and I have followed my own advice.

And here is a coin with average/below average luster:

That should answer your question. :smile

I think the 3 legged 1937d buffalo is on my radar.. Au55 or better..

That's one down.. The next step is wait until silver goes below 13.90 and consider buying..

For the third and final.. hmm.. That gold ultra high relief double eagle looks sexy.. but, i don't know.. those lincoln's i just can't ration paying $3,000+ for.. it's hard for me to pay that muhc for a penny.. lol

So, are you an investor or a collector? Seems to me you're letting your emotion get in the way.

And don't forget, that if you do happen to get lucky and make money on your investments in collectibles, under current law your capital gains on collectibles will be taxed at about twice the rate as other traditional investments!! Ouch!!

I would pass on the lincoln due to the spot to the right of his forehead and on the left obverse edge.

"I am striking while the kettle is hot for me."

    Clearly.

"I am a sniper in this game.. "

You'll shoot yourself trying to invest in coins without doing the homework or thinking to get it on the free here and know the info suits you or not.

"I just came here asking for a few nice coins recommended for the amount I have and that's it."

I'm not trying to offend you here but you come in a hard core novice and it shows by your questions and reactions, plus you're bent on spending your money, now. You don't seem to grasp the idea of investment in PMs and bullion to that of coins with numismatic value that are not related to the market. And you appear unwilling to do the work learning what you ought to know before you buy. Doesn't matter if you're buying coins or stocks or options... You're asking for a lot of hard earned/learned information from a lot of people, some who are quite knowledgeable here, and you're demanding tone is asking for it for free so you can spend without thinking/knowing what you are investing in.

How will you know when you've reached that consensus? or just been played?

It's likely that this forum will be just as fair with their advice if you pull the trigger on a money coin and get taken. And this forum will love drooling over your bullion pics that are worth just that. Sorry, again, not trying to offend, but it's highly probable that you'll make a mistake here with coins and where you're throwing your money given the pace your breaking at. It's good you know that you know you are bound to take this loss going into this, just seems odd you'd do so knowing it.

Yes, I did see that originally, but gave him the link as a representative example under the assumption that he has never seen a 1955 DDO.

I guess the general favor of most everyone here on this forum is for the Lincoln VDB.

I don't know, but I can't spend $3,000 on a penny.. I'm looking for something more in the range of $2,000.

I still think that 1937-d buffalo nickel 3 legged in good condition might be my best bet for holding onto in the future.. Seems to be the most popular still going today.

Asking for and taking coin-purchasing advice from people whom you know very little, if anything about, is foolish. Ditto for buying coins you know very little about. I understand that's not what you want to hear, but so be it.

The above notwithstanding, because chances are very good that you will end up losing money on whatever you buy, you might as well get something you (at least) appreciate and can enjoy.

I'm not going to get into a dispute with you because that's where it seems like you want to go.. I know when someone says they are not trying to offend, they consciously know they are offending but they use that qualifier to justify and make o.k some of their harsh rhetoric.

Look, some people posting have been extremely kind to my questions. They have clearly and thoroughly posted links and their advice all on good faith, to them, I can't thank them enough.

Others, just are here to put me down or scare me off from this industry. Not gonna work. I'll state that candidly. I'm no ultra hardcore novice or whatever you label me as, sir. I may be new to this, but I'm no dummy either. So that put down was definitely Not appreciated by me.

I had a good friend who was a coin dealer named Mike in Connecticut. He helped me with learning to appreciate the coin industry. Sure I may not know all the key dates or know how to grade, but I have a good sense on what to get and even better sense when it is backed up by the opinions of others (PCGS Certified is all I'll get)

So, that's all I'm going to say. I read articles periodically on coins, but my goal is my goal, it's not going to change. Some people may suggest I do otherwise, sorry, just not my plan. I have the money now, and I want to drop it on some good coin/bullion investments. Sofar a lot of you have helped me get ideas, and that is awesome, I still haven't finalized what I want and that's why I keep throwing out the idea of a 1937d 3 legged buff nickel in above AU condition, maybe that high relief double eagle gold piece from the mint, and some bullion, maybe even a nice peace dollar and a nice morgan here and there.

That's what I have my eyes set on thanks to a lot of you. It's now just finding the key dates and finding them at good prices.

Still open to suggestions, I did mention that I will offer a finder's fee if someone wants to help me a little better with this process.

    Thanks

I wouldn't knock those people, sir. They are very smart and very competant and I know this message board isn't just some shill. So believe me, I have a good idea that I'm talking to informed people here. I'm not buying directly off their advice, I am listening.. That's all right now at this stage.. Listening with an intent to eventually pull the trigger when I find the right deal.

    PRECISELY you are only guessing
    PRECISELY.
It's called a cent, you're an investor not a coin collector and you do not understand the difference. I and others continue to point this out for your own financial protection
Then why not a cent in the $2,000 range?

Learn about the grades of coins that are based on a coin's condition, so that you know what you're looking for when you are ready to buy or you'll make a mistake as the grades can effect the price and you may not recoup your investment money easily.
Do you even like the coin? or is it just a matter of what you think it represents in value/investment? Be careful out there.

    Seriously
, Listen to what Mark Feld is telling you. NO, SERIOUSLY!

    Sure, I love the coin.

I've always wanted to own a nice buffalo nickel.

It's not an argument, I have no malicious intent towards you... don't be so defensive about that which you do not know about in this "game" as you called it earlier? Just listen to everyone and be very careful investing in coins and understand the difference from bullion and PMs to that of coins with collector value attached to them and their grades. So why don't you deal with Mike in Connecticut anymore? You mentioned him a couple times now?

But oddly enough, you are not listening the most informed people there are here on this forum.

    Such is life.
