Thank you.. the horse in reverse is rather worn but the obverse captured a nice portrait of Antinous wrapped in a nice dark green patina as well
Antinoüs by Senex Caecilius Higgledy-Piggledy Hadrian's favorite, Born in Bythinia, Drowned in the Nile, Gone like the city of Antinoöpolis, Left just one legacy: Statuesque smile.
I don't know how I missed this post this morning. A very handsome portrait of Antinous. One of the best that I have seen. Congratulations on your coin! For those who may be interested, the British Museum published this book a few years ago which deals primarily with the life and works of Hadrian, but dedicates a whole chapter to Antinous. It has superb illustration and photos. A good read.
Thank you. Although same sex relationships were commonplace back in classical times, the cult of Antinous was particularly lasting.
Found a nice bust of Antinous as Dionysus to complement my medallion.. Must find a better background in the future.. haha
