I am very suspicious of this coin being a counterfeit and/or in a fake holder. Part of the coin looks as it were painted "on both side". There is a round depression on the eagle's left leg that also look suspicious.

Color is weird, is that what it looks like in hand? The cert number pops up but no photos on PCGS.

Coin looks good to me, and these are the main coins I collect. I have several graded similar with some areas of discoloration.

I have had bought/sold a few 2.5 INDs in the past. IMO, something about this coin just don't look right. I know what an "original frosty" coin look like. This coin looks more like a paint job then original. The depression on the eagle's upper left leg, plus the marks near the letter "G" in word God looks like part of the paint job.

Not every coin looks the same. The mark looks like a small ding to me, no big deal. Why would someone paint a fake coin?

The slab looks ok... it is possible that the coin has been puttied and discolored over the years.

To make it look original? Plus I can barely read the designer's initials. I know, I know that does not guarantee it is a fake.

If that is true then the coin should have never graded MS.

It won't be the 1st time a TPG missed something . But they do get it right the majority of times .

If you think it looks painted, the obviously it was not to help it look original. And you do know how tiny the initials are, right?

Putty is my bet. Putty can be nearly invisible when fresh, but shows up when it dries out. Because the coin is in an OGH it had plenty of time to "turn". Putty (which can be any number of things) is used to hide hairlines, contact marks ect.

It's been puttied and the putty dried out over time.

I agree with the puttied crowd.

Send it back to PCGS. They will give it an acetone bath, and if necessary, downgrade it under the guarantee after conservation.
