An interesting silver drachm from Pamphylia, Aspendos

    I mostly collect Roman Republic denarii, but I’ll occasionally purchase Greek coins that I find interesting. Today I bought an AR drachm of Pamphylia, Aspendos from Lodge Antiquities on Vcoins. I know Aspendos minted vast quantities of AR staters depicting hoplites or wrestlers. However, I don’t see the drachms coming up for sale too often.

    I assume the anchor counter mark meant that it circulated in the Seleukid Empire?

    I don't know. This anchor countermark on these Side tetradrachms is extremely common, and probably struck at the Side mint. I am sure there is some study about it, but I don't know which one...

    Pamphylia, Aspendos. Circa 465-430 BC. AR Stater (18mm, 10.85g, 4h). Obv: Nude hoplite advancing right, holding spear and shield. Rev: EΣ; Triskeles. Ref: SNG BN 6. Very Fine. Test cut on reverse. Ex Triskeles 25, Lot 101.

    That’s an attractive example despite the test cut. Sharply struck with the test cut not obscuring any of the devices
