That is my big gripe with grading companies. Unless these marks were made officially by the government, I still see it as damage, no matter what provenance it has. A coin may be very rare, but there are several I've seen that shouldn't be in straight graded holders. I suppose at some value those "details" are no longer a factor.

I think it was heritage that sold a world gold coin last year that had been clipped, plugged, etc and I'm assuming only because of rarity it was in a straight holder. I commented on the post wondering why with no response.

I guess I shouldn't worry much as I doubt I'll ever have a coin rate enough that the damage no longer matters!

When I was a dealer a person consigned a Bust Dollar to me to sell. It was graded EF-45, with claims to the AU grade, but it had initials lightly scratched in the obverse field. It should have been a “details” coin, but I guess the excuse was it was net graded.
