Hi all! I just picked up this interesting antoninianus of Otacilia Severa Obverse: MARCIA OTACIL SEVERA AVG / Diademed, Draped bust r. on crescent Reverse: PVDICITIA AVG / Pudicitia seated left, holding sceptre and drawing veil from face (sorry for poor quality photos - I've had to use the seller's pics) The PVDICITIA types are very common for Otacilia Severa, however my coin has an I in the exergue, which (as far as I can tell) is unpublished. I can't find any similar examples anywhere (acsearch, Wildwinds, RIC, OCRE etc.) Would this "I" indicate that my coin was minted from the 1st officina? I thought that Otacilia Severa's coins were only limited to the 4th Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I say die break because when you blow up the image I don’t see any signs of die cutting. Edges are rough and irregular.
That photo is from Coin Archives from a Roma sale. I’m sure I’ve seen a few others with the same die break. I have several hundred Otacilia ants on my desk. When I get to them I’ll see if there are any others there. Barry Murphy
