Here's one of those larger AE purchases that I mentioned earlier, which just arrived today... Nero AE As Obv: NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP, bare bust left Rev: S C in field, Victory advancing left, holding shield inscribed SPQR 10g, 28mm, struck at Lugdunum in 65 AD RIC 474 The coloration makes it look great in the right lighting, since all of the high points catch the light very well and highlight the features, but I think my photo is relatively honest in normal lighting conditions. Very happy to have a Nero in my collection. I just hope that the green in the S C is nothing to worry about.
Every Roman collector needs a Nero eventually! Good add. And an ironic SPQR reverse, since the “Senatus” and the “populus” of Rome are going to get pretty tired of Nero’s antics real quick.
Very nice! I have a budget example of the same type: more worn down, especially on the reverse, but the inscription is there where it counts and the portrait remains distinctively Neronian. Nero, O: head left, IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MA[X ...] / R: Victory flying left, holding shield, S-C. My own awful phone photo.
@Trebellianus That's still a nice coin, and I think your photography is fine. My phone is the only camera I have access to, so I do the best I can. As you can see, my inscription is all there, except for the Nero part!
