I recently picked up a roman republic I have always wanted. I always liked the portrait on these. I was lucky to get this for $35. Didn't help it was satellite photos I took a chance on & the only bidder but was worth it! Took 12 picks, this was the best of the bunch. Sellers satellite photos were worse. C. Annius T.f. Very nice coin @Mat and at a price that is hard to beat. I have only one Roman Republican coin in my collection, and yours kind of reminds me of it. I know that's probably silly to say, but I'm almost completely unfamiliar with this area.
Awesome coin and a great roll of the dice - has to feel pretty good when you pass the line in a crapshoot!
That is a great coin @Mat ! Killer price. The horses are super. RR Annius Luscus Hispaniensis 82-81 BCE AR Den Fem scales caduceus Quadriga Q Sertorius Sear 289 Craw 366-1
Mine came from Stacks, a not cheap seller, for $50 (20 years ago). It has always been a favorite due to the toning and poses of the horse heads.
That’s a great pickup @Mat! I have a quadriga or two in my collection but I have found it hard to find more at a reasonable price.
True! Nice pickup! The problem is now you have about 500 types of Republican denarii to go (not counting control-mark varieties).
That's quite a buy for $35, Mat... congrats. It's a common type, but one of the RR quadrigas I'm more fond of for the Anna Perenna obverse and its connection to the Sertorian War.
