Does anyone know yet what coins will be in the set? One from each mint (S, W, and (P))? How about that elusive "D?" Not a chance you are right about that. Yes, of course there are MANY folks who do not know what a silver eagle is. No CHANCE that is the same number of people who never heard of these medals. Or even close. I have family members who get one ASE every year for their "collection" and they never heard of these medals and most of the other "stuff" the mint releases ("you mean they have coins with Presidential spouses on them?"). There are a lot of folks like that out there. They have been making ASEs every year for more than 30 years and a LOT more people are aware of them after all this time and a smaller number who collect them than these medals which just came out recently. What makes you think that the mint's goal is to sell as many as possible? The Treasury Secretary and the CCAC do not get paid one red (or even brown) cent more if "the mint" sells more coins, nor do they suffer any consequences when the Mint lays an egg because they picked an unpopular design. These folks are largely politicians, and they have other agendas. To wit . . . Are they trying to promote a goal of a "more contemporary look" or to sell as many coins as possible??? Do you think that was because they wanted to sell as many as possible? Or perhaps do they other other agendas? Bingo.
