Fantastic Russian note and train vignette! Also a great gallery of train images, really amazing the steam trains there lasted that long into the last century! Thanks for the link.

Nice pictures almost as if they came from a different time.

hiho off to work we go

Back when I worked at Sony Music Studios there was an older gentleman who worked at the American Banknote Company when he was much younger. I thought that was extremely cool.

Here is an example from the Netherlands that I used to own printed by ABC with a neat serial #...

Even cooler if your name is Ed!

Whoa! Great scans and cool vignettes! Are those security planchettes in the bond? I see three pink discs in the cover of the wagon.

    GSalexan -> That's a beautiful Russian note.

Here is a common 5 Ruble note that I have. I think I paid 3 bucks for it. I got it only because of the evil vignette on the back.

Have no clue if this is an American Banknote Company or not.

Chris, I was at a stamp show today and found a bunch of these. They really are nice! Unfortunately I'm missing three of the set. :(

I'd forgotten about this thread -- I need to post some more ABNC material here.

These are not too hard to pick up off eBay for a nominal cost. I think this set here were just $1.99!!! ^_^

I scanned them with a very high resolution to view them large and that's how I enjoy them most often. Thanks for bringing them back to the top of the thread again.

The entire set for $1.99? !?! What a deal. I particularly like the Flagship Over Downtown New York and the Pennsylvania R.R. Broadway Limited. The red color really makes the locomotive pop, IMO.
    Very nice, Chris.

Thanks midas1! Yes, just $1.99 and they were unused as well. The glue was intact and there was no paper residue on the back of them to indicate they'd ever been pasted down to another material.

Unused! Sweet. Nice to see this thread reawakened.

To be fair, these are really labels not postage stamps, so it would be unusual to find them used.

I've been having great luck lately acquiring convention booklets from the International Plate Printer's Union, which contain some incredible engravings from both commercial banknote firms and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. If you are not familiar with these you can learn more on this post: http://www.cointalk.com/t94663-31/#post1255043

My latest one arrived yesterday, the 1948 booklet, with two wonderful pieces from American Bank Note. This seemed like a perfect place to post a few scans. The front page features a banknote sized engraving, which looks very similar to some European notes (apart from the eagle).

The second page is also an ABNCo engraving, featuring two angels and the convention date. This one made me smile because it's the same image that appears on an A&P stock certificate a couple decades later.
