Jon is certain it’s a S-34, he’s adding it to the catalogue of known existing 34’s I don’t think it’s S-22 tho the hair and hat is strong, the crack is there. Unless it’s a new die pair but I think the reverse is just too worn

Jon acknowledged the hair and hat indent. But he has officially listed it on his website! Fr2

I'm sorry I can't join the parade. It just looks like S-22 to me. I'm sure the disagreement is from what appears to be a diagnostic Die break at L. But the reverse does not support it.

Never assume. Check the facts. Sometimes you're wrong.

    This corresponds to:
Do your own attribution. Seek confirmation. Be prepared to incorporate new information which might negate your previous attribution. But in the end, you just need to be willing to keep unresolved disagreements amiable.

I am not an EAC guy - but on this one - I am in the S-22 camp.

The map is missing the second parallel hair strand from the top. The parallel hair strands are a diagnostic for S-22 (Obverse 5) and S-28/S-29 (Obverse 10). But I love the overlays.

Thanks - I'll make an adjustment to my S-22 map when I get a chance. I do not have a map of S-34 but to answer the question posed by the OP in this thread - I do not think it is necessary. As you can see in my previous post the S-22 map overlay matched the OP's coin.

Following is the S-22 map overlaid onto the NGC S-34 image provided earlier in this thread. As you can see "LIBERTY" and "1794" placement for S-34 deviates significantly from S-22. Also note the other minor design differences.

I love this system for diagnosis and confirmation.

Is there any chance you have overlays for 1800s and more specifically the NC-2? I have what I think is one, but it's too worn and corroded to be certain. I'd love to give your system a test run. Both confirmation and elimination help in these situations.
