They are indeed excellent files. There is something about an 8 year old using Excel that makes me a bit sad though haha. He has decades of his life to use Excel when he is in the work world.

Be Careful of Romans bearing gifts.

    [Or was that Greeks]

An most marvelous gift from a very generous fellow. :)

[aside] How the devil (furry) do you survive in a household with 5 adults? Kids? Yeah. Dogs Yeah. Inlaws turn very quickly into 'outlaws'.........just my experience. Dr. Franklin's mention of three day old fish was more apparent to my experience........ devil.gif

I am happy to announce that I got them all out of the house today. Now back to the normal chaos of 2 dogs, 3 kids, and 4 cats....ugh

We should point out that FFIVN is not burdened with a preconceived notion that he is not ready to handle these tasks so there is a better chance he will succeed not only at this but anything else he tackles. He has learned that a little effort can produce results as long as you think you can.

Well we managed to finally get #4 figured out but not without having to look up the final question we had on the AMCC2 site. FFIVN and I were both able to fairly easily read the legends on the obverse and reverse. However, everywhere we searched we couldn't find a IMP CONSTANTIVS P AVG. Lots of PF AVG but there definitely not a "P AVG" we also couldn't find one with a matching COMITI AVGG NN. Spreadsheets, websites, no luck anywhere.

FFIVN was getting frustrated and I was starting to go crazy thinking there was something we missed. I finally gave in the towel and went to the AMCC2 site to look up the coin in question.

In the listing it says this:
"Cloke & Toone 7.03.003(R), not in RIC
Struck while Constantine prepared to confront Maxentius. The common variety is RIC 153 (C&T 7.03.006); this is a rare obverse legend variety with “IMP” and lacking the “F” of “P F”."

We had found RIC 153 on wildwinds but that is as far as we got. When I searched "Cloke & Toone 7.03.003(R)" only 2 results came back in google. The AMCC2 listing and a forumancientcoins.com "Not in RIC" page.

Holy cow this thing was a beast. I don't believe that we have any coins that are not listed in RIC so this one is pretty special. It was frustrating to try and identify but rewarding to know that we were doing (pretty much) everything right when it came to looking for it. This coin also caps out a pretty great first full year collecting ancients.

I want to give one final shout out to @tenbobbit and @Severus Alexander for the generosity of these coins. I also want to thank the others here who have sent FFIVN coins over the year and all of you who have helped and provided encouragement to us when we were stuck. We have learned so much and we would be no where near where we are today without all the great people here on CT's Ancients forum.

Happy New Year and may all your collecting wishes come true for 2020!

Oh... and now for the coin ;)

    Constantine I
    AE Follis
Obverse: IMP CONSTANTINVS P AVG, laureate and cuirassed bust right.
Reverse: COMITI AVGG NN, Sol standing left, holding globe and whip, star to right
    Mintmark PLN
Cloke & Toone 7.03.003(R), not in RIC.

Great work again, I did warn you though ;)
No need for thanks, I knew the coins would be appreciated and the enthusiasm shown confirms it.
Keep up the great work with IVN.
