@Joshua Lemons of course, chopmarks count. I'm wondering if there is published anywhere a translation of the individual symbols? Z
There are a couple references, both out of print. Each chop and subsequent new chops are assigned identifiers. There is also an e-journal called The Chopmark News edited/founded by Colin Gullberg. $10 subscription for e-journal, $25 if you want the print too. Highly recommended with interesting interviews, tons of photos, plus articles. Not sure how frequent the issues are though. If you send him an email he will probably send you the latest issue electronic file to peruse. At least, he did me!
From the county of Lippe, two counterstamps on one coin! Just arrived today. Two countermarks from 1671 (at the edge) and 1685 (in center). Both counterstamps are considered official marks and are assigned km numbers. KM# 65, no stamp. KM# 75, one rose stamp on edge. KM# 102, two rose stamps. The denomination is 6 pfennig which is obliterated by the 1685 stamp. My assumption is these stamps were political, placed by new ruling heirs to the Lippe territory to put their seal of approval on the coinage as the value remained constant. Also saved on not having to strike entirely new issues.
I had a new, undocumented counterstamp show up yesterday. I am still trying to dig up information on who or what BELL WILCOT might have been. Anyone have any additional information? Z
I've got the mother of all Daniel Carr MMOH overstrikes coming in. Post the sellers pics or wait until it arrives? Z
That one is awesome. Nice pickup. And that B.R. & M. piece, I would love to get my hands on one of those . . . . . Z
Not at all. I love weird coins that mean something to me. Cuz their neat. Save everyone of them. I have a R-2 wooden dollar from that dwhiz guy. I use it for lottery tickets
Okay, I like the concept of "tweening" the Morgan and Peace designs -- but to my eye, the result is just plain creepy.
