I do have a few goals in mind. For example, I would like to pick up one example of each Emperor from the Flavian dynasty and the Five Good Emperors to build a set. I would alsk like to get a few samples of Roman coins with animals and buildings on them. I would also like to get a few nice examples of ancient Greek coins and ancient Parthian coins. However, if I have the oportunity to pick up some coins outside that list, at the right price, why not? There are plenty of ancient coins worth picking up, and although I do have some goals in mind I don't think I should pigeonhole myself into that and ignore anything else I may come across.
Here is the truth. We are enablers corrupting the innocent collectors of encased spendables into craving grotty hunks of corrosion recalling times none of us actually recall. I probably recognize more faces on coins than I do of living people. I would prefer that there will be generations after me with my same addictions.
Even though I've just gotten into Ancients I can recognize the face of every Roman Emperor on a coin from Augustus all the way through Philip the Arab with no problem at all, but that's because I've always loved Roman history. I can recognize some of the Emperors from the later Roman Empire, but not as many because most of them barely hung around for much time at all before they were murdered and replaced by a never ending string of usurpers and wannabee emperors who were quickly dispatched themselves, before they even had much time to sit down and do anything.
