    Thanks, @expat, I like that portrait also- and the fact that his tiny eye made it though the millennia intact helps with the overall impression. Thank you for hosting the alphabet game!

    @The Meat man, the Bar Kokhba coin is one of my favorites. Thanks for the compliment on it.

    Thank you for joining in. Thought it might be a good way to involve those of us left here with something we all have in common (love of old coins) and can participate in with even a tenuous link to the subject letter.

    Licinus, AE3 Follis
    Ostia, 312-313 AD, mint mark MOSTQ

    After the death of Maxentius, Constantine, Licinius and Maximianus continued to use the mint at Ostia for a short period along with Rome and Aquileia, and the coins became more and more like those struck in Rome.

    19 x 21 mm, 4.756 g
    RIC VI 95b;

    Ob.: IMP LICINIVS PF AVG, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust r. with beard
    Rev.: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, legionary eagle, standing left, between two vexilla; vexilla to left surmounted by right hand; vexilla to right surmounted by wreath; eagle on flag on one vexillum. Mintmark: MOSTQ

    Licinius sported the usual beard of the tetrarchs. Constantine broke with the norm by minting coins with a portrait without beard, but only at his own mints.

    @Bing That's a really nice Licinius. The obverse really pops. Has to be FDC.

    Thanks. I've had it for quite some time. Perhaps 20 years. I paid premium at the time. Twenty ($20) bucks after shipping.

    Meander majestically through multiple memories of minted and hammered purchases. Mint marks, minting cities, many and marvelous makers of historical moments. Mix them up, make them known and meditate on what might have been. It is M time
