About 20 years ago my grandfather gave me a 1790-something cent (I think it was 1796). I was not super into coins at the time, but I thought this one was really cool. I stashed it in my home office desk drawer. Since then we have moved about 7 or 8 times. As recently as three moves and six years ago, I knew where that cent was. But now I don't. Plausibly it is in one of the great stacks of boxes we cannot unpack because we have continuously downsized our living space.
Speaking of getting old...here's a story about the opposite side of the coin--a coin that I have no clue where it came from. This is a thread that I posted over on the PCGS forum when it happened to me several years ago. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/755174/do-i-owe-you-money By the way, I still have the coin and I STILL don't have a clue where it came from.
