I just got this yesterday....It's not a provincial but I'm posting it anyway. I had a little trouble with the attribution and I'm not that confident that I got it right. Any additional info would be appreciated. Correct my mistakes please. Hadrian.jpg

I just realized this thread is "provincials" ...I guess I should read the titles before I post coins (imperials).

PHRYGIA, Apameia. Hadrianus 98-117 AD 20 AE Marsyas.

    Reference.
    BMC PHRYGIA P. 96, 155; SNG Copenhagen 211; SNG von Aulock 3492.

    Obv.: AΔPIANOC KAI CEB
laureate bust right, aegis tied at shoulder.

    Rev.: AΠ AMEΩN MARCYAS KIBΩTOI
The river god Marsyas reclining left, holding a loft rhyton and double flute, resting on rocky outcrop with amphora from which water flows; five chests placed on the height above.

    5,28 gr
    20 mm
    aVF

    Extra.
The figure on the reverse is not the satyr Marsyas, who does have his mythological orgins in Phrygia, but rather the personification of the river Marsyas, which flows from a spring in the heights above Apamea and eventually joins the Maeander. Apamea was known as Kelaenai before being re-founded by Antiochos I, and had the additional epithet of Kibotos, or "chest," for its importance as a regional trading center.
