If you think they remember you yet, I'd do them one better. Bring in 150 $1 bills all wrinkled up, reaking of perfume. Just say,"good thing the girls did good dancing last night." Just watch them run for their gloves!

The Government? We're talkin' about some good old boys in the "Moutain State". I don't think they qualify as "Government".

Marblemaker, I hate to tell you but there is nothing in the Constitution that says they have to accept legal tender coins. And there is no other law that says they have to accept legal tender either. The Constitution give the congress the power to create money and regulate its value. It also forbids the STATES from making anything other than gold or silver a legal tender, but does not forbid the Federal government from doing so. The Coinage act of 1965 makes all of the US coins legal tender, but does not mandate their acceptance. And there is no other law that mandates their acceptance either. As I have mentioned before, in the county I live in they will not accept legal tender (cash) in payment of taxes. They must be paid either by check or credit card.

    Totally agree.

I think it's wise to just pay the fine. It's not a matter of "standing up for the constitution". I can understand how someone might be burned up about getting the ticket in the first place, but the coin thing almost sounds like misplaced anger. "I'm p***ed about the ticket, and I'm gonna "give it to The Man", I tell ya !"

Just pay the man and move on.

if it's all loose change, it's unfair for you to ask an employee to take a great amount of time out of their day to count them. I can understand ANY vendor's refusal to accept a large amount of loose change, because of the time it takes for someone to count the change. And the company doesn't want to pay someone just to count change. They have (or should have) more important things to do with their time. But if you're paying in rolls, then I don't see how they can refuse that.

With talking to senators, the attourney general, and such.... I agree that your stance is important. But I can imagine, that they have more on their plate to deal with than a vendor not accepting coins.

I hear ya, bro. I see the same thing in small town Texas.

I empathize with your position. I think much the same way you do.

But I discovered one Truth in 51 years of living : when I beat my head against the wall, it ain't hurtin' the wall.

I've not seen anything which suggests you were wrongly accused of speeding. In any event, I'm concerned you'll beat on this, then beat on it, and then beat on it some more and not accomplish anything. You'll wind up just paying the man. Even if you do "win", is it really worth it ?

Is it really a matter of constitutional principle ?
