Hello everyone. They good folks in the Ancients Forum suggested that I ask for your help with Chinese Cash that I received during one of many trips to China. If anyone could help identify them as to what the coin is, face amount, dynasty/year, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your help! 11 coins total:
I would guess these are fairly modern. This is a good source and will give you a decent over view of most types. http://primaltrek.com/chinesecoins.html
Top one is a commemorative from the 1939 San Francisco/Golden Gate expo. Worth around $15. 4 and 5 are Japanese 1 mon, 18th century, but very common. Others are Chinese cash, also common.
Thank you! I was searching for a good site. Unfortunately, I cannot read Chinese / Japanese / Korean, etc., so I will be long hunting in the databases to find anything!
Numismat: Thank you for the quick response! It has been very helpful...I have already put the 1939 SanFran/GoldenGate Commem into a flip! Hope the other 5 have some interest...
Those with any interest in Chinese Coins will want to but David Hartill's book Cast Chinese Coins. It enabled me to ID the couple hundred I have (all very common). There are free websites with a lot of information but I have to say there must be some law requiring sites on this subject being hard to use. The first below asks you to click on a series of choices starting with 'round coin'. Try some and see how you do. http://www.calgarycoin.com/reference/china/chinaid.htm http://primaltrek.com/guide.html
