One issue which cannot be seen in your photographs is luster. If it does show, even some or partially, then you have an excellent shot at an AU50 coin. A XF coin usually has none, or at the higher end, just a trace.
Rats, medoraman will want my first born for that one. :>) I should have asked first about the luster and posted later.
Hello Gobrecht, IMO you need to get one of these dimes dated either 1837 or 1838-O to go with your collection. They have no stars like a nice Gobrecht dollar coin.
you cannot go wrong in collecting seated coinage. that's money in the bank. plus they look cool.... go for at least XF-AU grade if you can afford them.
ya know most collectors are all over the place.. me I am too but not as much as I once was now im looking for oddities an varities as well as grade cents, two cent, 3 cents, nickels , and all the rest of the u.s. issues I have 153 cents to this date certified
Im a metal fabricator by trade. Lots of nice detail work with brass, aluminum and copper, so the cent came really natural to me to collect. I love how copper is reactive with its environment, so when I get a bag, everyone is different in some way. Silver coins are different to me, they are either nice or ugly. The middle ground on silver is very limited, in my eyes.
I bought this in 1980 for $15 with the idea that since I wasn't rich, just yet, it would do for the moment. Been the longest moment I ever heard of. The weird stuff in the fields are hazing and the reflection of the cell case. http://s1270.photobucket.com/user/hermit_the_surly/media/CAM00186.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1270.photobucket.com/user/hermit_the_surly/media/CAM00181.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3
