Does anyone know if Aelius Sejanus ever had himself portrayed on a coin. He is reputed to have had a massive ego, perhaps he feared Tiberius would take a dim view of it?

Sejanus made a puppet out of Tiberius. Ran Rome whilst Tibs partied it up on Capri. Supposedly even got him to execute his own son! Then on the day Sejanus was brought in thinking he was to be made Caesar some of his traitorous letters were read and Tiberius had HIM executed!

aha!.. i remember the story now that you've mentioned it!...there must've been 2 different royals with that name(Aelius) in the empire.

Just to be clear, the portrait on the Sejanus coin above is the portrait of Tiberius. The contribution of Sejanus is his name from 3:00 to 1:00 on the reverse.

Yes...a portrait would have been better...but it still bears his mark...
