When we see a <span style="color: #ff0000">tight, fine</span> crystal pattern in a coin's surface (called "spider-web" by authenticators) it calls for closer scrutiny. </p><p><br /></p><p><img src="https://www.cointalk.com/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.wixstatic.com%2Fmedia%2Fae43f8_ba176498fc414002adb0d8aea1e69825.jpg%2Fv1%2Ffill%2Fw_1000%2Ch_625%2Cal_c%2Cq_90%2Fae43f8_ba176498fc414002adb0d8aea1e69825.jpg&hash=011bc748a82c442fae9c710c44bd390d" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><img src="https://www.cointalk.com/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cointalk.com%2Fproxy.php%3Fimage%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fstatic.wixstatic.com%252Fmedia%252Fae43f8_100138ff30b1492eb3ab35769466e08d.jpg%252Fv1%252Ffill%252Fw_992%252Ch_787%252Cal_c%252Cq_90%252Fae43f8_100138ff30b1492eb3ab35769466e08d.jpg%26hash%3Da1d4840be75cd9081b03f65cde93c309&hash=395061e79a3ac853d526948e4045d4c3" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Now let's take this coin.
This is an example of what I posted above (Post#58). Note: I am not making any opinion as to the authenticity of any coin here - only pointing out some of the characteristics I see in the photos. In the photo below, we see crystallization in the incuse stamping, and inside open spaces on the edge. This characteristic is always a plus on an ancient. So, the large, blocky crystallization we see on this coin is good. When we see a tight, fine crystal pattern in a coin's surface (called "spider-web" by authenticators) it calls for closer scrutiny.
