[QUOTE="Jim Dale, post: 24481819, member: 100459"]My father was in the Army and we moved almost every year I was in school. We lived in Europe twice. Now I live in the middle of about 8 military bases in North Carolina. I looked at the map and it made me feel like Custer.

Also, you guys talk about addiction. There is never an easy addiction and you never are free of it. Mine got me in more trouble than I can think of. When I was 39, I was jogging down a narrow strip beside the road. I got hit by a truck that knocked me down a 30 foot embankment. I had to be brought up to the road in a "basket". I went to the hospital. I finally woke up while they were prepping me for surgery. I had destroyed most lower back (L? - S1). After that, I had 4 more surgeries. In the meantime, the gave me enough Percocet to kill me. Eventually, I became an addict. Then they made me go cold turkey. I never got over it. I started doctor shopping and finally, a doctor caught on and I was arrested. I spent a few months in jail. I lost my job, my wife and my children, all because a truck tried to kill me.

That was 20 years ago. since then, I was referred to a psychiatrist that specialized in drug addiction and pain management. I went to a addiction program that didn't help. I still hurt like hell. I was finally referred to M.D. that put all my medical records together to find out what was going on. He diagnosed me as having "Failed Back Syndrome". I was told that my back cannot be fixed and the only thing that could be done is to be on a Pain Management with Narcotics to minimize the level of pain I had. Pain is identified by a numeric system 1-10. I have never had a number less that 6. I have to see my doctor every other month to see if there was any change. Blood was taken every other month to make sure I am taking my medicine.

I retired from work with 30 years of service for the State Controllers Office as the CPA monitoring mis-use of state funds.
