I wanted to abstain from buying this coin due to the worn condition. But the possibility of a leafless sacred tree on reverse, pushed me to do so. The coin was struck under Valerian and weighs 11.32 g. with 25 mm. of diameter. The tree is flanked by 2 altars from which serpents rise. Caduceus in lower right field.
The historical port city of Acre lies on the Mediterranean Coast. It was also known as AKKO and Acca. Ptolemy invaded the city and annexed it to Phoenicia, thus it bore the name of Ake-Ptolemais during a long period. The Crusaders attributed the name of Saint Jean-D'acre to that famous city. Hope the tree was really sacred. Healing Tree!. Kadman 246.
