Hi folks-- First post here but long time lurker... I'm new to PM stacking. Mainly interested in AGE and a bit of ASE. I've boght my AGE from APMEX and like the reliability but dislike the premium and shipping costs. I noticed that APMEX has listed 1 oz AGE for ~$40 over spot. However, they are listed as "Abrasions". http://www.apmex.com/Product/11164/1_oz_Gold_American_Eagle_Abrasions.aspx As my main goal, is accumulation of Coin bullion PM, I'd like to know how much "abrasions" as described effect the longer term value? Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks! Keith
Well, at the this point there seems to be about $100-$500 per AGE and and upto $30 per ASE premium based on condition and eye appeal of the coins. The abrasion coins you are looking at basically are going slightly above spot, so it doesn't look like they are going to net you any premium so I'd guess that they are scratched enough to not warrant a premium. As for the longterm value, these types of coins will pretty much always go for just a bit over spot. You only need to be concerned with premiums on graded coins, those will likely hold the premium value best. However, if you're just interested in the bullion aspect for investing I would steer clear of graded bullion and just stick with raw AGE and ASE and pay spot or a little above.
