Interesting. As a 13-year-old, I wouldn't have been the target market for any of the gold issues, but I was paying attention to coins at the time, and I don't remember hearing anything at all about large-format issues.

I imagine most people won't hear about this special issue, either, no matter how much it may excite or outrage some of us.

Yep, that's a good point. I bought the Jane Pierce First Spouse issues direct from the Mint because I saw that the mintages were so small; in fact, I got it in business-strike rather than proof, because I saw mintages were higher for the proofs. The one I got didn't end up being one of the very lowest mintages in the series, but it's still far and away my "rarest" coin in terms of number struck.

And it doesn't matter a bit. I'm well in the black on the coin, but only because gold has tripled since I bought it. Numismatic premium is essentially zero, and I don't expect that to change in my lifetime.

This year's issue will be different, though. Nobody had very strong feelings about Jane Pierce in 2010, or in any of the years since. Lots and lots of people have strong feelings about Donald Trump in 2026, and I don't expect that to change in my lifetime, either.

I thought they were only making 47 of them? We have different definitions of lots and lots of people. And I don't think anyone asked for this. It was just unilaterally commissioned by you know who.
