The top of the wing tip disappears behind the sprig but does not reappear where I would expect the flow of the wing would place it.

I included a photo of another quarter and the wing tip is fuller in appearance.

Am I wrong on this? If not what would cause this?

Chip, the mintage on the first year of clad quarters is:

1,819,717,540. That’s more than 1 truckload. You are probably seeing a form of die deterioration...imo...Spark

To me it looks like the coin was struck by an older die and of course it's been circulated.

More likely is I don’t always check the replies to my myriad list of questions. Because, yes, I am busy but also having a few health issues and I’m trying to do a final editing on a book I’m writing, the wife just had a birthday, we just had our 44th anniversary and the to-do list and priorities keeps going. Sorry, don’t mean to be rude so thanks for the reminder.
