This was the first large scale commission that ASG had received and was finished in 1881. The original sandstone base was replaced with marble in 1900 and the original base now sits on display at SGNHS. This is a really large work with Farragut standing taller than the base. Essentially, we had this wonderful, indoor-outdoor museum to ourselves in terrific weather.
