So this one just popped up on MA-Shops and after a bit of research to confirm my suspicions, I bought it. It is true that the coin is worn but that is fine with me. There are 5 of these on Acsearch. Of these, only 2 have been sold in the last 5 years. I bought this coin for the reverse. I did not know that there was a type for vespasian which included Neptune and the Dolphin. I think it is an interesting type. Please post you favourite coins of Vespasian. Vespasian AR denarius 70 CE Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Laureate head right Rev: COS ITER TR POT; Neptune standing left foot on prow, with Dolphin and trident RIC 25 (R) BMC 14, RSC 90 Purchased from Monetarium on Ma-Shops January 13, 2020
Nice score, I also saw this coin but thought it was the more common Neptune type. You have a great eye for Flavian rarities.
Favorite? I could be talked into many of the Eastern mint types but I do like this bust of Pax "Peace on Earth".
You're on fire, @Orfew. First the titus, now this one. Nice! I will post my favorites later, unable to do do moe.
This is my favorite coin of Vespasian ... very common type, but alas, it is my only coin of Vespasion. @Orfew , thanks for encouraging me to remember that I had this.
WoWiE! Very cool reverse! Here's one of my favorite coins of a favorite Emperor. Whom famously said, "Money doesn't smell"...
Yes, a Vespasian Neptune from Rome is neat. But if you want to be fancy, go for one from Lugdunum too. Vespasian AR Denarius, 3.35g Lyon mint, 70 AD Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG TR P; Head of Vespasian, laureate, r. Rev: COS ITER TR POT; Neptune stg. l., foot on prow, with dolphin RIC 1109 (R).
