A Very Ugly 1796 Silver Dollar...

    We've certainly derailed this thread, but since the author, @Marsyas Mike, started the subtheme himself, I'm hoping he won't mind. :)

    Most enamelled coins that were produced at the turn of the century were extremely well done. The more colors layed as well as the artist work made some very costly specimens.
    I sort of believe that enamelled coins were the upper classes love tokens.
    As the every day man could of never afforded such works of art and jewelry.

    I don't mind the "derailed thread" at all! I am really enjoying the jewelry posts - great stuff here.

    That is really unusual - never seen anything like it myself. Right now I am suffering from "ancients fever" so I won't bid...probably.
