Thanks for opening it and showing us. How's the dime? Nice tone on the cent. Everything looks original. Any rust from the staples? The coins look okay. Nice pickup.

My father gave me an '54 and it still has that same type of plastico wrap. I really should put it in a Capital Holder. I haven't checked it in years but the last time I looked everything seemed OK. I really do need to have another look at it......

Actually the half looks like it might be a cameo... I need to look at it harder in the morning.

    coins look beautiful

I have a question with a set like this would it be best to remove the coins from the package and into a airtight case? or no?

    thank you.

I think it advisable to re-package the coins. I've been sadly remiss with mine.....

I collected sets like for most of my life, and with proper storage there is no need to remove them from the original packaging. Think for a second, that set has been in that packaging for 58 years - and there's not a thing wrong with it. But the key is proper storage. Something that too many just can't bring themselves to do for some reason.

    Nice set Matt !

Too much reflection on the packaging, how does the nickel look? Full steps? Toning? I think it's great that you opened them! Would also love to see the half with better pictures. Thanks for sharing!!!

Good heavens are we paranoid or what? I just don't understand how pessimistic people can be. I'm sure that your box has never been opened or tampered with. I'm happy for you and am wondering if you are going to open it up. Kind of like Christmas! Please take photos of the coins when you do and post them so we can see your treasures! I wish you Lots of luck.

I'd say do not do anything to the original packing, coins are no different than a lot of collectables. My wife has her 1st year Barbie in the box, and because of the box it's worth a great deal more than without. I collect Mint sets and Proof Sets, I do not even look at them unless they are in the original box. And what I have been doing the last few years with my Mint Sets, I don't even open the cardboard box as received from the mint, I just write the year in the corner. i wish I had done that earlier in my collecting career, but that's water over the dam. i have been receiving sets direct from the mint since 1955 and I can tell you, finding unmolested older sets is not easy. thanks, douglas

OK, but now imagine this. Take that 1st year Barbie in the box and wrap it in plain brown paper. Seal it with tape. Write on the outside - 1st Year Barbie in the box.

Now ask your wife if she'd buy it and pay a premium at that - without removing the brown paper wrapping.

Years in this great hobby will teach a person to be that way till an item is shown to be real or not messed with.
Sad but it's wise to be very careful. Looks like this one is the real deal and never messed with.
