...I'm only a little past the half-hour mark of this, and the score is, Chomsky: 1; everybody else: 0. ...Look; for one, It's Television. Okay? An element of 'translation' (pregnant metaphor, in this context?) is otherwise implicit. ...With or without the (too conspicuous) corporate patronage. For what it is, this is as good as I have any business expecting. As in, from the medium. --At Large; Full Stop.
Seems the links doesn't work, for me. I can imagine it has something to do with me being on the old continent? Tried finding a link online, but can't seem to find a working one. Too bad, because it sounds really interesting. Back in the days, proper history programs were on Discovery, and National Geographic as well. Nowadays its horrible stuff like storage wars, guys building bikes and fishtanks, and a lot of shows about digging up gold somewhere. It's really sad
I liked that particular program because they told the story of one of the researchers who went on to teach in a college where he would bring graduate students home for a home-cooked meal, but first they had to snort, huff, breathe some exotic chemicals to see what they would do to them. Funniest was when the doctor had a spiel like "I don't expect too much from this one...a petroleum distilate...chlorinated, let's see...chloroform. Sniffffff, ah nice, kind of flowery......................." whereapon they both collapse.
@robinjojo What a wonderful series! This is right up my alley and I thank you for posting this. I do admit I haven't seen NOVA is quite some time, even though, it is one of my favorite shows on TV, very educational... And here is a cheesy pic I quickly put together to mimic the starting scene which I loved...
