Trying to get a sense of the rarity of a recent purchase, I of course ended up finding a thread started by a Flavian Fanatic on coin talk. :)

I have this one coming my way, @David Atherton Same as yours, McAlee 331?

    Nice!

I have two tetradrachms, Antioch, of Trajan, one with the Melqart reverse and the other with the Tyche seated reverse. Vespasian is much rarer.

    Congratulations

    Thank you :)
I’ve been doing some searching today, and don’t find many examples. There are similar ones, but they have a simpulus or star behind the head of Titus. I take it that makes them another type, or at least variety. I don’t have pPrieur or McAlee myself. The McAlee book looks good, do you have it?

No, I do not. My main references for Flavian Syrian issues are RPC II and Butcher.

Looks like Gorny & Mosch don’t have it either, because their attribution was Prieur 331, while CNG had McAlee 331 and Prieur 109. The Prieur book is beyond my budget for a modern paper back, and I’m not sure I need specialist litterature on Antioch either, like the McAlee. I only have the GIC by Sear. Perhaps I should prioritize the RPC.

Since I specialise in Flavians, all I really need for my provincials is RPC II, supplemented by a few standard works.
