Don't believe everything you read on the internets, let alone on CU where someone posted unverifiable information about an ANACS 70 graded AtB 5 oz. purportedly selling for 30K in 'auction' as related by a Collectors Alliance rep... Neither that CA rep nor that poster had any way to prove the claims. What auction house handled that sale? Has ANACS a population report to show they have given a 70 grade on a 5 oz. AtB yet? Funny how the poster who stated this info on CU actually has eBay auctions running with AtB 5 oz. coins listed for sale himself... Let's see, he says "someone else said they are worth $xxxx and no one has them but they could be worth more graded... and Oh look!, I'm selling some, wanna place a bid..." :rollling: If you can't back that claim up any more than those anonymous posters can then please don't spread it here too. It hearsay and unproductive rumor spreading. All this has amounted to on any forum currently kicking around the messed up AtB 5 oz. coin release is negative sentiment, primarily coming from those who don't have access to these coins.
The ATB 5 ounce COLLECTORS version coins for both 2010 and 2011 have been added to the US Mint product schedule: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProdschedView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001 If you have the bullion issues, you better flip them quickly. :smile TC
I don't know... It could be too soon to say whether flipping prior to the numismatic coin release is the way people should go with the bullion versions at this time. Over time, the bullion versions of this series may act as defacto UNC versions to that of the Mint "P" mint mark numismatic versions. I would not be hasty flipping coins too quickly, they may end up being cheaper than the mark up on the numismatic ones the Mint will sell-- all despite lower mintage of numismatic versions.
I will be very surprised if the US Mint sells the collectors versions for as much as what the bullion issues go for now in the secondary market ($2,000-$4,000 per set). Not only would it be hypocritical and would likely unleash a collector backlash, it would not match the mark-up on their typical PM numismatic products. I am going to guess that these will sell individually for between $200-$300 on the US Mint website, but much, much more in the secondary market. TC
TC: I meant that the Mint's mark-up on the numismatic versions will be greater than what the APs are selling the bullion versions for to those able to order them. I was not comparing the Mint's retail price to what the eBay and other secondary market are selling them for/buyers are bidding them up to. I feel that your $200/AtB 5 oz. coin from the Mint will be unlikely since APs like FideliTrade took 5-coin set orders for $929.20 shipped, $860.20 for the 5 coins themselves. This comes to $172/Bullion AtB coin. Add on the Mint's typical 20-30% mark-up and related costs they have for adding boxes, capsules, COA, etc. and whatever spot silver is doing prior to release and these coins may well go for $250 and closer to your $300/coin estimate-- probably lower, like $249 to $279/coin. I'm sure that immediately upon release the secondary market will errupt again, just as nutty as the initial bullion versions saw the bids mount up and buyers line up for those coins.
I flipped mine already. It took me about 20 minutes to photograph the coins and list them on eBay. It took less than half that time to get my BIN price, even though my listing read in part, "I don't think these coins are worth my asking price." I agree that the current prices reflect a speculative bubble. They also reflect artificial scarcity, since several of the AP's haven't gotten their retail sales operations running yet. OTOH, just before Christmas I predicted that the price will settle out between 150% and 225% of bullion. Now I'm leaning towards the upper end of that scale, so I sold them at a price where I could make a charitable donation and still have a hope at buying a set at a later date. Since the 2010 "Collector's Version" coins will have a "P" mint mark, my guess is that they'll be treated as a separate collectible and will trade at a slightly higher price. (That's assuming the Mint has the legal authority to sell the coins in 2011.)
Thanks for the example. I am glad to be hearing from someone with some experience with the coins, selling and such. :thumb:
Krispy i actually heard it last nite on HSN Coin collector guys said it is the only set that graded ms 70 so far and sold for a whopping 30k thoes guys in the beginning/christmas i watched a show on HSN and they said a ms 70 set would sell for 125k they were far from that last nite at 30k I dont think they know what there talking about after i heard them say 125k and now its down to 30k.Go to HSN.com website and watch last nites video on it ! Listen i heard this with my own ears and this is a forum for updating and shareing info this is exactly what they said take it for what its worth that is all im just informing you and there is nothing wrong with that its the truth whether you believe it or not.
HSN! Oh brother!!! I hope you and others don't believe what they are saying/selling, even at 30K just because they pulled back from 125k... They have been increasing the speculative dollar amount of what these coin sets *may* be worth down the road for over a month now. See this CT thread from December. There is a lot of speculation about how HSN could have gotten enough coins in hand and into grading so early on, to amount to 210 available ANACS graded MS69 sets. Something doesn't add up... Also, I don't take any one's word on forums, they are filled with misinformation and sloppy copied rumors, unless you cite sources from the start when you state something, prepare to hear doubters and to be asked to verify your statements. With this AtB fiasco, there is too much hype, rumoring and misinformed chatter being spread.
That sounds fair .I dont know if it says about the anacs ms 70 set that sold for 30k on the hsn web site video from last nite but they did say that last nite you can check it out to see if you like By the way what do you personally think a 2010 ungraded 5oz set will average in value in 12 years (spot) ? I have been following this fiasco from the day apmex first sold out 1000 sets in 19 hours and then stopped.
I have been following news about these coins since 2009 when details of the 5 oz. coins began to filter out after the coin legislation was introduced. I don't understand your question about value in 12 years? Was that meant to be rhetorical? You think in 12 years the value of these coins will be spot? If so, I cannot agree with that and while I cannot say what PMs will be like that far in advance nor what the market for hobbyist/collectors for this series will be by that time, I will say the coins will certainly be above spot price.
Just an idea of what you think the value will be on these in 12 years ? Some say spot But i do not I too have been following this since 2009 What i ment was on the sales part of them Thanks
That's wicked! Just not worth the price of admission? Folks are snatching them up left-and-right on Ebay, and paying an insane amount of money! Me? I would rather have a hundred common date Morgan Dollars!
It is very nice, but not mine. This is the example photo from ANACS website. Judging by the photo, that slab has to be slightly larger than a hardcover Red Book. :too-funny:
