A small mystery ... EPN Slab Morgan

It actually says both. The lettering on the white ring refers to the Educational Society, which owned the collection.

I sort of have an answer... The May 16-17, 2014 NY Heritage sale had that logo on the cover and the lot assignment cards. I mean the orange logo, as opposed to the grey ones used by NGC. Maybe the owner of the coin cut up his lot card from one of the auctions (May 2014 was the fourth of its kind) and glued it onto a backing with his grade of choice.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am selling off a coin collection for a family where the collector passed away. One of the coins was in a ACGS holder (American Coin Grading Service?) that I had never seen before. The holder looks and feels like a legit holder not like the ones you buy, print up a label and then put the two sides together. The coin, to my eye, is under-graded, they gave it a MS63 BU, but I don't see any bag marks on it and it has a nice luster. For what it's worth I'll add scans of it to this post.

The "ACGS" coin is a raw coin in a cardboard 2x2 that happens to be thick, plastic, and about 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 in size.

If your referring to my post of the ACGS slabs, they were talked about in the first and second post of this thread,

    messydesk Well-Known Member

No, they weren't. What was being talked about was ACG, which is entirely different, and specifically how much the slab that was the topic of this thread resembled the ACG slabs.

Well excuse me! I assumed ACG and ACGS were the same thing. As I said, it was the first time I had seen an ACGS slab, I have, if they are different, never seen a ACG slab. I would suggest you lighten up, it was an honest mistake, and if it was as bad as you indicate, I'm sure a moderator would have stepped in.

This forum is an educational forum and I learned something today.

I don't know where you're inferring hostility from, since none was meant. You were given explanations as to why you made your honest mistake, and guidance for having people look at your coin in its own context, rather than in one where it didn't belong. Quite often, when someone replies to a thread with something that seems off-topic, especially after many replies have already been made, the post is ignored, which is not what you wanted.

Again, I wasn't familiar with ACG or ACGS, I thought I was adding to the tread , not putting in something that was not relevant. If I made an error, you could have simply said, in a pleasant manner, that they are two different companies. Your response is the kind that discourages people from participating in the discussion, because of the tone of the post. I don't think you really want to discourage people from participating. The written word has power and we have to be careful what we write.

Just to point out a minor logical flaw... the above is the same as saying a car and a scar might be the same thing... the only difference, after all is an "s".

I don't eat, sleep, and live for coins. Coin collecting is a hobby to me. I enjoy collecting and I enjoy learning more about the hobby. I've been collecting since I was a paperboy and I am now retired. I do not claim to know everything about coin collecting. Unlike some people I don't correct people's mistakes in an unkind manner.

NorthKorea: Give me a break, how can you compare two entirely different things- a car and a scar to two things that are similar, both ACG and ACGS are TPGs that I had not heard about before. Maybe you're a friend of Messydesk and adding to his post? By the way, as a Viet Nam Vet , I'm offended by your "Name".

When I joined this forum I used my real name. I was advised not to and a moderator kindly helped me change it to a different name. Before the change was made a member of the forum posted my name address, phone number, and e-mail address, based on Googling my name. Fortunately he had the wrong person, but that should have given me an idea of what some of the people on this forum were like (Moderator- why didn't you edit out that information?) Other coin forums are people who enjoy coin collecting and sharing their knowledge with other collectors. this forum seems to be for people who like to show off their knowledge and belittle new posters.

I was amazed by the number of personal posts and e-mails I got from people who tried to warn me about this forum, but I felt the majority of people were decent and really had coin collecting as their first priority. I guess if you haven't been on the forum for a few years you are not welcome.

Well, it's not going to work, if there's a tread that I want to comment on, I will continue to do so. Some times my comments will be right on and sometimes they will be off. I would hope that someone, in a civilized manner, would set me straight if my post was not correct.

  Oh, I think I get it. You don't live "coins" yet you know enough people who can recommend that CT has a bad rep. and they posted you (where?) and Emailed you (where, at the address that was posted by the troll?)... great story. ;)

I didn't join CT to listen to whiners and I have no sympathy for anyone who gets offended by "names": @TheMont said "as a Viet Nam Vet, I'm offended by your "Name". Nevertheless, I'm glad you have learned something here and decided to stay around as I probably have been one of the uncivilized members giving you heat. If not, sorry I missed the chance! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: See, CT is fun. Don't let it get to you. ;)

You are one of the snipes that keep people from joining in this forum, you were not a part of this discussion, but jumped at the chance to put in your snarky remarks.

You are not worth wasting my time on. I suggest you reread your post, it reflects badly on your ability to make a logical point. The people who sent me private posts were people who are members of this forum and are to intimidated by people like you to make their posts public.

And yes, as someone who served his country, using the name NorthKorea does offend me. I find no humor in it, if that was the intention, and I find it offensive to anyone who put their live on the line to serve and protect this country. It's easy to hide behind a made-up name, kind of a comment on a person's character.

By the way, if you don't like my posts there's always the ignore button.

I generally agree with this (although you can't really read tone). @TheMont, yes there are folks around here who look to establish dominance by using their words, their knowledge, and/or their egos. You'll quickly learn who they are. But ya gotta have thick skin, too, brother. Best just to chalk this up to a misunderstanding and lots of assumptions. By all sides.

I don't like bullies. There are people out there who would like to participate in this forum, but they are afraid that they will mocked and belittled by people who get their kicks from being rude and nasty. As I said before, I am a long time collector, but I do not profess to be extremely knowledgeable about coins and currency. I read a lot and listen to the presentations at the coin club I belong to, but I have a lot to learn, that is one of the reasons I joined this forum. I have learned things that have helped me in my HOBBY of coin collecting. Thank you for your post, you are correct, I have to be a little less sensitive, but if you don't stand up for yourself it only gets worse.

Now, let's get back to posts that concern coins and currency.

Reading this thread reminded me of my ex girlfriend. It could almost bet on exactly how many sentences would pass before arguments started and insults were thrown.
It's almost like that game, 5 Degrees of Kevin Bacon - no matter where you start at, within 5 levels you'll end up at Kevin bacon.
Now don't crucify me for going "off topic" in a thread that's so far gone.

I'm glad that you're offended by NorthKorea as a VietNam vet. Not sure how the two are connected, but as an American, I'm glad you believe you have a right to dictate the names of other members on an international coin forum.

Now, I still don't see what a self grader ("ACGS") has to do with Eric Newman.
